Radio and Podcasts

My fascination for radio and the medium as a whole is almost as expanse as my newspaper/magazine reading. I started listening when I was 7 years old.

I usually listen and read so many things to the point of overload.

Radio stations I usually listen to:

570 WTNT (defunct)

820AM The Gamut

740AM Zoomer Radio

770AM WABC

1180AM WHAM

1030AM WBZ

88.5FM WMAU

88.3FM WBGO

100.3FM WBIG

Radio shows I oftentimes listen(ed) to:

Matt Drudge: The Drudge Report (defunct)

Truckin’ Bozo

Coast to Coast AM

The Sean Hannity Show

The Savage Nation

Ground Zero

Mark Levin

Shortwave:

When I was younger and in school I’d get home and listen to the shortwave/am and listen till I went to sleep at 10pm or 11pm. This was way back when the internet was not ubiquitous and I didn’t even have a computer at home.

I’d sit and try to pick up whatever I could. I became fascinated with the curious pop up stations that repeated numbers in Spanish and Russian as well as other languages. The aptly named: Number stations.

This scanning of stations instilled the desire to learn languages as I desired to understand what I heard over the various stations on shortwave.

I still carry my shortwave radio and people ask me all the time what I’m doing as I shift around to obtain reception. I enjoy the conversations that come due to my radio listening.

Chinese Democracy

Funny how I came to stumble on the news about “Chinese Democracy

My wife casually read the headline off Drudge:

“…blogger leaks…Guns N’ Roses album…um”

I in shock–disbelief as I was eating a sandwich replied, “Say what? Album leaked–Guns N’ Roses…you serious? Where?”

In spite that their last album came out when I was six years old, I knew who Guns N’ Roses were and I knew who Axl Rose was.

This was in a time when I was enthralled with Mozart and Beethoven, with Classic literature…also my early beginnings of love for Pop Culture.

I always thought William’s: ‘Axl’ name was rather curious. I remember back in 1998 having some screen names and an email with Axl in it as I did find it curious. I also remember insisting on people calling me Axl as a play on what my name abbreviated in English is. (If you’re smart you’ll figure it out…maybe)

Years later I still knew that the album was anticipated–and I remember the 2002 MTV Music Video Awards performance by them and the disappointment that followed thereafter.

So it’s surprising to see that the album is finished…and not so surprising that it has been leaked.

Notwithstanding the point was made:

“…the more that Axl and Geffen jerked around trying to figure out how to release this finally finished album that we’ve all been waiting over 13 years for, the greater the chances would be that it would slip out of a pressing plant or office somewhere and wind up in the hands of some asshole with a blog.”

Well, all I can say is…”Welcome to The Jungle”–that is the internet:

Viva La Vida

I started the morning off (although I have yet to sleep due to sickness) with pulling five tracks of Viva La Vida by Coldplay off BitTorrent. In reality it was only for two as I had three of the five in the download due to getting Violet Hill off Coldplay’s website and the other two due to some scouring.

I’ve had 30 seconds of Viva La Vida stuck in my head for weeks now since I read/heard/saw the Apple commercial:

I was going to seek out the particular song then, however I was unable to to do so due to my internet inability…

Now I can hear the song in it’s entirety and not have to play the 30 second .flv that I downloaded of it…
