TV Mobile Apps

I haven’t had a cable subscription in almost two years. These shams of being able to watch live TV but you have to provide your cable subscription credentials are trash. When a cable company or even a premium channel company like HBO gives the ability to be able to use these apps via an ‘a la carte purchase then you can make announcements about these apps. Right now they’re about as useful as trash–only to be thrown away.

What more proof is needed than Netflix or even for that matter Hulu and Amazon Video for their viability?

This is what media companies should be complaining about. Their lack of progress–their ingenuity and not ‘piracy‘…

Stop making content so tied up. Cable TV subscription is an archaic form of DRM. The last frontier. Once this barrier is broken companies will see so much improvement.

Boardwalk Empire S03E02

The episode begins in a “Dexter”-isque theme. A couple minutes in I had to make sure I was actually not watching “Mad Men”…

The episode again deals with fleshing out characters and leaves loose ends from episode 1 and still others from the past season.  I hope they don’t pull a “Weeds” that I stopped watching due to so many ends being lugged around every single episode.

Other than that its like watching paint dry and realizing when the color drys its not what you chose.

I’m trying very hard to get into it but I think maybe the show has lost its touch. Its dragging its feet with things. I’m being held in suspense. I’m not being rewarded.

Alphas S02E07

Fast paced and prompt. I don’t like that they’ve kept Kat almost like nuisance. I think her and Gary could hit it off.

Nina is losing control on her ability. (Spoiler alert) Its about time Dr. Rosen found about Bill’s fighting and about his daughter. However I believe Dr. Rosen’s character has taken a turn for the worse. I’m not sure if its the intention to make him more liberal and risk taking in regards to his team.

The continuation of the demonization of Parrish is getting old especially without continued merit. More elaborate explanation needs to occur in regards to Parrish.

The interesting character development is Rachel with her newly enhanced ability coupled with her love interest John. More exploration here.

Going back to Kat. Its unfortunate that Kat has been seemingly pushed to one side. She’s the water cooler so far. Her ability is second only to Gary’s and on par with Rachel’s. I really like Kat’s character and upset she hasn’t been used.  (Spoiler Alert)

Parrish and Rosen have shared consciousness–Parrish’s intent no doubt. All in all great episode.

Boardwalk Empire S03E01

The season begins reminding you that “Boardwalk” is violent, as if you needed reminding.

But the pace is slow and I feel its dragging its feet with plot elements from Season 02. (Spoiler alert…)

Nucky doesn’t address the land selling till almost the end of the episode and by the time the pace has picked up its over. Season premieres are supposed to set the pace for the series as well as obtain new viewers. Yes the episode was up to par but its just filler. In a game of chess it was a pawn move that took a little too long execute.

I hurried to Watch…I should have waited till there was two episodes.

I Think I’m Getting an iPad (3G + Wi-Fi)

“Isn’t Everybody getting one?” I don’t know. I guess.

For me it’s a big deal. I haven’t bought anything from Apple that hasn’t been over $300 in almost half a decade.

The last thing I purchased–that I consider a big purchase was back in 2005. I got a PowerBook G4. Although I sorely lamented having not waited; I was and still am thoroughly pleased with my purchase. (Despite it’s current state: unusable and all the ills I had with it. Head over to my Livejournal for more on that)

During that short time–although I must say it actually is a bit of a time. I’ve seen Apple update and update and update both architecture (that was once), hardware, and software a bunch of times. For their laptops and desktops– well, at least for some. Things like Mac Pros and Macbook Airs have been slow to see the light of change.

Which was why my inclinations were towards the Air when it came to making another big purchase from Apple.

However it didn’t happen–or hasn’t happened…yet.

Very well seared in my mind was the ill and strange sensation of having purchased something and for it to have it made obsolete whilst it’s new smell still yet lingered. Then for it to become entirely defunct still yet not old.

Guess I’m old school in that aspect. I still have an iMac G3 that works and at the time of my big purchase wasn’t ‘obsolete’.

It had been ‘allowed’ to grow old gracefully and not hastily.

Yes indeed times have changed and are a changin’ but still present somewhere in my mind is a cautionary tale…

Buy when sure, ready and not on impluse, presumptions, or speculation.

In the same manner I feel as if I am experiencing it to some degree with my iPhone 3G. Which I have only recently acquired. Yet due to my experience, I bought when sure and ready. Despite the software and the anticpated hardware changes I don’t feel as then.

So comes the iPad into Play.

I am remotely and slightly gleeful that I haven’t purchased an Apple System (by that a mean that it’s marketed, shown as independent and not as part of something like say an iPhone) in almost half a decade.

I say this as I know not what lies June 7th to be presneted by Mr. Steve Jobs.

I believe the iPad will change and is currently in the process of revolutionizing what we know as the Personal Computer as it did so long in 1984.

Insomuch that I’ve decided to purchase an iPad in the following months.

I’ve opted yet, still debating, however a wee bit sure I shall purchase an iPad 3G + Wi-Fi.

Sure Wi-Fi is more readily available and free of charge in many a places however I’ve grown too acustomed to the connectivity.

Sure there are plenty of ways to make the iPhone as a modem for the iPhone however my goal is to be light.

True an iPhone is light as can be. Although I speak from experience, it’s a cramped out light experience. Heavy on the cramping.

Using the iPhone as your only source–no laptop…at all is slightly grim.

The lack of ‘real estate’ first of all daunting after three months.

Yet with iPad that’s there. The ‘real estate’.

The difference between the Wi-Fi only iPad and one with 3G + Wi-Fi is the difference between an Airstreamer (trailer) and a full fledged RV.

Sure you can be autonomous with the Airstreamer but to an extent. You still need a hitch and a vehicle to accomplish it.

With the RV the autonomy is present from the moment you arrive. The vehicle is optional as it (the RV) is the vehicle.

So I think I’m getting an iPad 3G + Wi-Fi…I’ll see.

Watching

There’s only a handful of things I still watch consistently.  Among them:

  1. Fringe
  2. Stargate Universe
  3. Star Wars: Clone Wars
  4. Justified

I’ve fallen out of the loop with “House, M.D.” …yet I’ve failed to sit and watch an episode–any episode for that matter since last year.

White Collar I liked and saw only 3 episodes–unfortunate.

Star Wars: Clone Wars I’m behind a couple episodes, but catching up.

…I wish “The Riches” was still on the air–madonn why did they have to take it off the air.

Weeds S04 E02

This episode was more of a slight return to it’s roots. There was the uncertainty of what was going to happen and what is going to happen with the DEA and other loose ends from Season 2…yes, there are still loose ends from then. Just one of the many frustrating things that made Season 3 of the show almost intolerable.

Season 3 was a detour of some sort and Season 4 hopefully will fix that.

Also no more little boxes theme song–it’s been done away with. Actually no theme song period. It’s very unoriginal and like, “What…that’s it?” When it was said that the series was going to be reinvented I thought it meant that. I have yet to see that.

The episode was decent–borderline decent. It was more of a ping-pong ball going back forth though.
